🕰️ Welly’s Time Machine – When The Beatles came to town

Welly’s Time Machine – When The Beatles came to town

The Beatles wave to fans from the balcony of the St George Hotel in Wellington, just hours after touching down in New Zealand on 21 June 1964.

In June 1964, The Beatles touched down in Wellington for a whirlwind two-day visit that sent the capital into full-blown Beatlemania. Crowds swarmed the airport and their hotel, fans fainted at the Wellington Town Hall concert, and John Lennon reportedly quipped that Wellington's wind was louder than their screaming fans. For two chaotic days, the Fab Four turned our quiet capital into the centre of the pop universe.
