🐾 Pet of the Week – Meisie

Meet Meisie – a clever little pup with a big personality! 🐶. While out walking in Trentham Park, Meisie got separated and decided to sort things out herself – crossing the road to a nearby house and waiting politely for the humans to come home. (yes really!). Luckily, her collar had the right contact details and she was soon reunited with her family. Meisie’s the runt of the litter, but don’t let her size fool you – she’s great with kids and other dogs, and full of confidence. Just don’t mess with her dinner – she prefers her food chopped just right, thank you very much.

🕰️ Welly’s Time Machine – Carmen’s Daring Mayoral Run - 1977

In 1977 Wellington witnessed one of its most audacious political campaigns. Carmen Rupe, a legendary drag queen, ran for mayor, challenging the norms of the time with bold promises like legalising prostitution and abortion. Though she didn't win, her campaign sparked important conversations on LGBTQ+ rights, leaving a lasting impact on Wellington’s political landscape. Photo Credit: Te Papa Archives.
